"Everyone deserves to have access to affordable health care, a quality public education, and affordable housing. I'm running for Nevada Senate to fight to make sure everyone in our community has those opportunities, regardless of their ZIP code."

Wendy Jauregui-Jackins

My parents came to the U.S. to pursue the American dream and they worked hard to provide me every opportunity at a good life. I was part of English Language Learner and free/reduced lunch programs, but I attended public school and received a great education. Having access to these programs and a quality public education, set me up for success. In 2006, I moved to Reno to be with my now husband and began work at the Washoe County Assessor's office, and since then I have worked my way up from an office assistant to an Appraiser III, my current position.

I decided to run for office because I believe success should be accessible. Our kids should have access to an excellent public education and our educators should have our support. Families should not have to decide between buying groceries or going to the doctor. Nevadans shouldn’t be worried about spending their entire paychecks on rent or a mortgage. I believe these are issues we can tackle as a state, and I am running for State Senate because I want to make sure that we do.

I am a first generation American, UNR alum, and an Assessor III for Washoe County. I am running for state senate because I believe that every child should have equal opportunities regardless of their ZIP code and that families shouldn’t have to choose between paying rent and buying groceries, especially right now. I believe these are issues we can and must address I believe these are issues that we can, and need to tackle as a state, and I am running for State Senate because I want to make sure that we do.

In the year ahead, following the crisis, we need to...

Our students, teachers, and local schools need our support during this unprecedented time. Every student should have access to a world-class education, regardless of their ZIP code. Wendy will work to secure and protect funding for our public schools and fight for smaller class sizes and better teacher pay.

Coronavirus is devastating Nevada’s economy. Wendy will fight to help working families and small businesses weather the impact of the pandemic and get back on their feet. She believes we need to look at every option, including small business loans, assistance for those who have lost their jobs, and economic diversification in the green energy industry that will create new jobs and help to stabilize our state’s  economy into the future.

Access to quality, affordable health care is critical now more than ever. Wendy supports efforts currently underway in Nevada to expand health care access and bring down the skyrocketing costs of health insurance and prescription drugs. This crisis has shown us the importance of every individual having access to healthcare options, and Wendy will work to make sure Nevada has the equipment, capacity, and health care workers need to contain this virus.
