Investing in Our Students, Teachers, and Local Schools
“Every student should have access to a quality education regardless of their ZIP code.”
Public schools shaped the person I am today and public education was the foundation for my success. Growing up, I was part of English Language Learner and free and reduced lunch programs. Despite not having the same resources as other families, these invaluable investments provided me opportunities to succeed in life. It is critical that all of our students have access to a quality education so they can reach their full potential.
Our students, teachers, and local schools need our support. All of our students should have access to a quality education, regardless of their ZIP code. I will work to secure and protect funding for our schools here in Washoe County.
I will work to increase teacher pay so that we have the best and brightest in our classrooms teaching future generations Nevadans. I also believe we must invest in reducing class sizes by capping the ratio of students to teachers so that our kids get the individualized attention they need to be successful.
I want to provide equal opportunities to all our students, so they graduate prepared for the jobs of the 21st century. For some, that means college readiness, but college isn’t for everyone. With a technology based future ahead of us, it is critical that we make sure all students, not just those in wealthy areas, have access to the tools and technologies they need to be successful. I will fight to invest more in both STEM education and vocational training programs, so that all of our students are getting an education that sets them up for success.
Public education is a long term investment in our future, and I believe we must do all we can to fight for more investments in our local schools so that all our students in Washoe County are receiving a world class education.
